The Vacancy
Required for September 2025
At St Luke’s, we are looking to appoint Level 1 Teaching Assistants who will participate in a fixed-term Development Programme to acquire the knowledge and skills to become successful Teaching Assistants.
This is a fixed-term contract until 31st August 2026.
During your contract, you will work in a classroom for your contracted hours and undertake specific development tasks to support children with Special Educational Needs, enhancing your understanding of how to support them effectively.
Development Focus Areas
* Understanding the different needs of children (including autism, physical needs, and speech and language development)
* Supporting children with challenging behaviour using a therapeutic approach
* Moving and Handling Training
* Supporting teachers in a busy classroom environment
* Developing communication skills, including Makaton signing
* Understanding child development
You will be assigned a mentor to support your development, and over the year, you will produce a portfolio including certificates, assignments, and a reflective journal.
Please note, this development programme does not lead to a recognised official Teaching Assistant Qualification.
