Job Description:
The purpose of this role is to provide targeted, bespoke support to disabled children and their families, especially where there is a risk of family breakdown due to behaviours of concern. This is a 1-year contract working as part of the Empowering Families and Networks in Enfield project. The Behaviour Support Practitioner will:
1. Work flexibly between 8am – 11pm, Monday to Sunday, on a rota basis.
2. Provide high-quality, safe care and support to children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, behaviours of concern, or mental health crises, using a Positive Behaviour Support framework.
3. Support children in various settings including home, centre, or community to give parents a break.
4. Work with parents, carers, and schools to embed strategies that promote change, build skills, and resilience.
5. Offer specialist advice and support to families to prevent escalation of behaviours.
6. Assist with hospital discharges, especially outside normal hours, working closely with health and social care professionals.
7. Develop and implement Positive Behaviour Support plans with families, conduct risk assessments, and ensure interventions are accessible and effective.
8. Promote communication skills in children using various methods to ensure they can express choices and influence their care.
9. Build trusting relationships with children, young people, parents, carers, and professionals, including participation in multi-agency meetings.
10. Ensure trauma-informed practice.
Skills, Experience, Knowledge & Abilities:
* Excellent spoken English for communication with the public and colleagues.
* Experience working directly with disabled children and young people with complex needs in various settings.
* Strong communication skills, including with children using diverse methods.
* Experience working collaboratively with multiple agencies and professionals.
* Organizational skills to keep accurate records and coordinate work.
* Experience in improving practice and delivering high-quality services.
* Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
* Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support frameworks.
* Experience developing and implementing support plans.
* Proficiency in IT systems (Outlook, MS Office, electronic case management).
Qualifications & Professional Registration:
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent in childcare or health and social care (desirable).
Additional Requirements:
Enhanced DBS check required for working with children and vulnerable adults.
