About the Role

As a Senior Planning and Project Controller, you will play a key role in the development, maintenance, and oversight of project plans and controls. You will use your expertise to drive the success of complex engineering programs, ensuring that key performance metrics such as Schedule, Cost, Risk, and Earned Value Management (EVM) are effectively integrated and managed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Scheduling & Cost Control: Deliver expert services in scheduling, cost management, risk management, and Earned Value Management (EVM) to ensure successful project execution.
2. Schedule Management: Develop and maintain the programme IMS, interface with key stakeholders to track and manage dependencies, schedule progress, develop and manage schedule margin, and be able to effectively communicate intelligent schedule metrics to the wider team.
3. Control Account & Work Package Management: Oversee and manage control accounts and work packages to ensure projects stay on
4. Performance Measurement Baselines: Develop and maintain Performance Measurement Baselines (PMB), ensuring they align with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Statement of Work (SOW), Schedule, Earned Value, and Risk baselines.
5. Integrated Master Plan (IMP): Maintain and update the Integrated Master Plan (IMP), ensuring full traceability between SOW, WBS, Contract Data Requirements List (CDRLs), and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
6. Collaborative Approach: Work closely with various departments to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment of project plans and schedules.
7. Programme/Controls Experience: Contribute to the effective delivery of complex programmes, ensuring timely and accurate controls over schedule, cost, and performance.
8. Risk & Change Management: Execute schedule risk analysis (SRA), construct representative schedules as appropriate, compile and maintain accurate three point estimates for uncertainty, map risk event, interpret SRA results, and advise programme teams on how to best apply risk management strategies. Additionally, manage baseline change control and assess impacts on the overall programme.



Required skills, qualifications and experience

To succeed in this role, we’re seeking candidates with a strong background in project controls and planning. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while also collaborating effectively within a team.

9. Planning Software Proficiency: Proficient user of Open Plan. Familiarity with Primavera P6 is highly desirable. Experience with both is a plus, especially in complex engineering environments.
10. Earned Value Management: Highly skilled in evaluating and analysing Earned Value Management data, supporting Control Account Managers, Work Package Managers and Project/Programme Managers with statusing, resource management, ETC/EAC development, interpreting and advising metrics.
11. Experience with Early Phases: Experience working on the early phases of new delivery programmes, particularly in the context of training and logistics programmes.
12. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team, providing technical knowledge and expertise to drive the programme forward.
13. Baseline Control: Strong background in planning/base line control, ensuring that the programme stays within scope, schedule, and budget.
14. Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage across the business and maintain clear communication channels.
15. Stakeholder Management: Proven experience in managing and communicating effectively with stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure alignment and transparency.
16. Risk Management Expertise: Ability to run schedule risk analysis (SRA) and interpret findings to advise programme teams on best practices for managing schedule risks and distributing schedule margin.
17. Understanding of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS): Comprehensive understanding of the importance of WBS and its alignment with contract documentation, ensuring clarity and precision in project planning and execution.
18. Strong Analytical skills: Demonstrable experience in analysing data from a variety of sources such as; schedule, Earned Value or Risk etc and able to identify key information which is required to support data driven decisions, highlight trends or provide early warning of execution concerns.
Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience
19. Experience of supporting new business captures and producing planning artefacts in response to proposal requests
20. PRINCE2 or APM Qualifications would be advantageous in providing an understanding of project contexts.
21. Assembling and presenting data to senior stakeholders in formal reviews
22. Experience of training and developing team members in order to build team capability
23. Well versed in Planning and Programme Control best practices and willing to support the development of common processes across the team.
24. Adept at change implementation and exhibits a growth mindset in their approach to challenges.
