Overview
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust SLT team is recruiting a Speech and Language Therapy assistant into our growing stroke rehabilitation service. The post is based at Rowley Regis Hospital for inpatient stroke rehabilitation, with acute stroke admissions cared for at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
The role focuses on delivering high quality communication and swallowing rehabilitation to patients during their inpatient recovery. The team is committed to patient‑centred care and to embedding the principles of “what matters to you” into all work.
Responsibilities
* Deliver high quality communication and swallowing rehabilitation to inpatients following stroke.
* Use highly developed interpersonal skills to establish strong relationships with patients, families and MDTs.
* Participate in the weekend service provision for in-patients at Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital and engage in evolving models of 7‑day working.
* Work across the acute to community stroke pathway, with occasional travel to support patients at the Midlands Metropolitan Hospital site.
* Be motivated to progress clinically, learn new skills and develop knowledge about the area.
* Engage in regular departmental meetings, clinical supervision, and education sessions; take part in weekly development sessions and monthly evidence‑based practice reviews.
* Support student training as part of a department that values education and development.
Qualifications and Skills
* Passion for rehabilitation and a desire to work with patients who have communication and swallowing difficulties after stroke.
* Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
* Motivation to develop knowledge and skills and progress within the clinical area.
* Willingness to undertake rotational/blended roles across services to strengthen working relationships.
