We are looking for a Band 5 Theatre Practitioner in beautiful South Devon. The successful candidate will work in the inpatient theatre department. You will be responsible for the delivery of high quality patient‑focused care and for providing and maintaining a safe environment for all patients attending theatres. You will co‑ordinate and carry out peri‑operative care with minimal supervision, acting as a role model and working with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
There are two roles available – one part‑time 24‑hour post and one full‑time 37.5‑hour post.
Responsibilities
* Working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to achieve a high standard of patient care and to have a positive impact on patients’ peri‑operative journey.
* Working as a Scrub Practitioner and as a circulating practitioner within theatre, delivering quality of care and maintaining standards.
* Supervision of students of nursing, Operating Department Practitioners, nurses on the adaptation programme and post‑registration learners.
* Acting as a team leader within theatres.
* Co‑ordinating the department in the absence of Band 6 under the supervision of Band 7.
Working for our organisation
We are a forward‑thinking, proactive department. We have two practice educators to support our clinical practice, one dedicated to trauma and orthopaedics. We have an on‑site educational building with a simulation suite and work closely with two highly respected universities.
Qualifications and skills
* Registered Nurse (NMC) / Registered Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
* Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care.
* Organisational and leadership skills.
* Flexibility in providing service cover during nights, weekends and on‑call as required.
* Highly developed physical/clinical skills where accuracy is important.
* Manual dexterity for setting up equipment and safe use of medical devices.
* Experience with moving and manual handling of patients and equipment.
* Skills in counselling/supporting staff, patients and relatives.
* Concentration in theatre, setting up theatre, checking patients in, and assisting during operations.
