Job Title: Primary Teaching Assistant (Day-to-Day, Part-Time & Full-Time - Including SEN Roles)

We are currently recruiting enthusiastic and reliable Primary Teaching Assistants to work across a range of welcoming and supportive primary schools throughout Derbyshire. We have flexible opportunities available, including day-to-day supply, part-time, full-time, and long-term roles, with some positions specifically supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Whether you are an experienced Teaching Assistant, an SEN specialist, or looking to gain further classroom experience, we have roles to suit a variety of skills and availability.
The Role
As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will support teaching and learning across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 settings. Roles may vary from general classroom support to targeted 1:1 SEN provision.
General Classroom TA Responsibilities:
Supporting the class teacher with lesson delivery and learning activities
Working with small groups to reinforce key concepts
Delivering phonics, literacy and numeracy interventions
Preparing classroom resources and maintaining an organised learning environment
Encouraging positive behaviour and pupil engagement
Supervising pupils during break times and transitions where required
SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities (where applicable):
Some roles will involve supporting pupils with additional needs, including:
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
ADHD
Speech and Language needs
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Moderate learning difficulties
In SEN-focused positions, you may:
Provide 1:1 support in line with EHCP targets
Implement personalised learning and behaviour strategies
Support emotional regulation and sensory needs
Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to track progress
Promote independence, communication and social development
Previous SEN experience is highly desirable for these roles, though support and guidance will be available.
What We're Looking For
Experience working with primary-aged children (school-based experience preferred)
Experience supporting SEN pupils (desirable for SEN roles)
A patient, adaptable and proactive approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
The ability to adapt to different school environments
Relevant qualifications (Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant) are desirable but not essential
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
