The Manager, EMEA Trade Lead is responsible for leading and executing trade compliance strategy across the EMEA region to ensure adherence to applicable customs, import/export, and trade regulations. This role partners closely with Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, and Commercial teams to enable compliant and efficient cross-border operations while supporting business growth. The position plays a critical role in mitigating regulatory risk, strengthening governance, and driving continuous improvement across EMEA markets.
This role will be based with DePuy Synthes following the planned separation of Johnson & Johnson Orthopaedics activities.
Responsibilities
* Lead EMEA trade compliance activities in alignment with global trade policies and regional regulatory requirements.
* Serve as the regional subject matter expert on customs, import/export controls, tariffs, free trade agreements, and trade regulations.
* Partner with Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Legal, and Commercial teams to support compliant product movement and business operations.
* Oversee trade compliance processes, controls, and documentation to ensure audit readiness and regulatory adherence.
* Identify, assess, and mitigate trade-related risks, including the impact of regulatory changes on EMEA operations.
* Support internal and external audits, regulatory inquiries, and engagements related to trade compliance.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, data quality, and compliance governance.
* Provide guidance and training to regional stakeholders on trade compliance requirements and best practices.
Education
* Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, International Trade, Finance, or related field (required).
* Master's degree, MBA, or advanced coursework in trade, logistics, or compliance (preferred).
Experience and Skills
* Required:
o Typically 6-8 years of experience in trade compliance, customs, supply chain, or a related field, with regional or global scope.
o Strong knowledge of EMEA trade regulations, customs requirements, and import/export controls.
o Experience leading or influencing cross‑functional teams in a matrixed organization.
o Demonstrated ability to assess regulatory risk and implement effective compliance controls.
o Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory topics clearly.
* Preferred:
o Experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated industries.
o Familiarity with global trade systems, ERP platforms, and compliance reporting tools.
o Experience supporting or leading regulatory audits and inspections.
o Proven track record of driving process improvements and operational efficiencies.
o Experience working across multiple EMEA markets and cultures.

o Languages: English proficiency required; additional European languages preferred.
o Travel: Up to 20% international travel within EMEA.
o Certifications: Trade compliance or customs‑related certifications preferred.
