We are offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Renal Nurse.

Bradford is a rapidly developing diverse and multicultural city with easy access to the major cities of Leeds and Manchester and close proximity to the Yorkshire Dales. Renal services in Bradford are provided by a multidisciplinary team that includes doctors, nurses (including specialist nurses for diabetes, advanced kidney disease, dialysis, dialysis access, dialysis education and renal transplantation), dietitians, pharmacists, psychologists, dialysis technicians, research nurses, a clinical audit officer and a cultural and health improvement officer. The service continues to grow and currently supports a dialysis cohort of 300 patients and a transplant cohort of 420 patients.

Main duties of the job

Dialysis services include peritoneal dialysis, home haemodialysis and in-centre haemodialysis. Our main haemodialysis unit is situated in Horton Wing at St Luke's Hospital and is undergoing a major reconfiguration to provide additional side room capacity, Shared Care, and an in situ simulation training facility. There is a satellite haemodialysis unit at Skipton Hospital, 20 miles to the north of Bradford, with future plans for its relocation and expansion. We have a dedicated acute haemodialysis facility for inpatients at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) with plans for this to be expanded and to include a new isolation facility.

We now have a dedicated renal ward, home therapies area and a renal day care facility to support patient assessment, investigation and treatment at BRI

Job responsibilities

We have established a Bradford Renal Hub in the local primary care electronic patient record system to improve two-way communication between our renal service staff and primary care teams.

You will join a large, friendly, multidisciplinary team committed to delivering evidence-based best practice. The regular schedule of attendance for dialysis treatments enables the team to build professional relationships with the patient group, without impacting on the Professional Code. The successful candidate will be expected to complete a comprehensive training/ teaching package during their initial 6 months. You will have the opportunity to gain ward experience as part of preceptorship period. There will also be an opportunity to take part in an internal rotation programme to gain insight into other areas of the renal service including peritoneal dialysis, transplant and pre-dialysis care.
