We are seeking an experienced and motivated Estates Officer (Electrical) to join our Estates & Facilities team at UHS Estates Limited. This is a key operational role supporting the safe, compliant and effective running of our hospital estate.

You will help manage and maintain the electrical services on site at Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital. You will work within the Electrical team, managing a group of electrical technicians/supervisors and working with our mechanical team, building services, contractors and various stakeholders, ensuring high standards of performance, safety, and value for money. Working closely with clinical teams, engineers and contractors, you will help ensure our hospitals remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose.

What You’ll Do

Detailed job description and main responsibilities.

* Manage the Electrical Team and ensure they undertake all Statutory and Mandatory PPM and Reactive Maintenance.
* Monitor and maintain KPI’s within the target limit.
* Manage contractors.
* Provide temporary support to the other band 6 managers within the Estates Maintenance Team.
* Provide technical support to the team.


What We’re Looking For

* HNC/Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or related field.
* Substantial experience and technical knowledge in Electrical Systems and HVAC.
* Computer literacy, including MS Office suite and Planet FM (training provided if required).
* Understanding of Health and Safety requirements, including risk assessments and method statements.
* Able to supervise/manage a team.
* Flexible approach to working.
* Thorough understanding of BS 7671 (2008) 18th edition (including latest edition).
* Participation in the Engineers’ on‑call rota.
* Desirable: Previous experience within Healthcare Engineering.
* Desirable: Experience working with electrical safe isolation and issuing permits to work.


Experience In Other Associated Trade Disciplines

* Managerial experience.
* Inspection and Testing.
* Medical Gases.
* HV installations.
* Core working hours 0730‑1530 Monday‑Friday, with participation in on‑call roster.
* On‑call: 1 day in 11; weekday on‑call requires site attendance 1400‑2200hrs and 2200‑0730hrs from home; weekend on‑call requires site attendance 0730‑1530hrs (paid as overtime at 1½ or lieu) and on‑call from home during 1530‑0730hrs.


Person Specification


Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria.

* HNC/Degree or equivalent examined qualification in Electrical Engineering or related field.
* IOSH Managing Safely qualification, must have or acquire within 6 months of taking up the post.
* Considerable prior industry‑related experience of electrical maintenance works.
* Knowledge of Building Regulations and understanding of statutory and legal processes related to site developments.
* Experience of managing directly employed labour and contractors in delivering reactive, planned or combined service provisions.
* Knowledge of HBN/HTM, asbestos regulations and approved codes of practice.
* Experience in CAD packages.
* Current authorised person status or willingness to achieve authorised person certification as required.
* Must have or obtain a current driving licence within 6 months to enable prompt attendance across University Hospital Southampton buildings in emergencies.
* Must fully participate in the Estate Officer on‑call service.
* Ability to climb vertical ladders to open roof areas and access confined spaces such as steam and crawl ducts (reasonable adjustments in line with Equality Act/Disability Discrimination Act).

Desirable criteria.

* NEEBOSH General Certificate.
* Extensive experience of HV/LV installations (supply and distribution).
* Membership of a recognised professional organisation is encouraged.
* Project Management experience.
* Understanding of mechanical supply and distribution systems within a large site/building.
* Institute of Leadership and Management qualification (or equivalent).
