Graduate Production Chemist
Location: Northamptonshire (Close to Birmingham, Leicester, Northampton; 1 hour train to London)
Salary: £28,080 per annum
Hours: 37.5 per week; Mon-Thurs 07:30-16:00; Fri 07:30-14:45
About The Role
* Join a 10-chemist Production team focused on small-scale manufacture (5L-20L) of flavour and fragrance (F&F) chemicals for the global food industry
* Synthetic organic chemistry techniques
* Apply established methods of organic synthesis to produce flavour and fragrance compounds, including esterifications, reductions, oxidations, and condensations, with precise control of temperature, pH and reagents
* A strong understanding of reaction mechanisms and lab safety is essential
* Routine manufacturing and new process introduction
* Produce chemical batches according to existing protocols; contribute to scaling up and optimising new synthetic routes
* Purification by distillation (often under reduced pressure); familiar with rotary evaporators, short-path distillation setups and vacuum pumps
* Lab-based work in one of the production laboratories (typically 5L-20L); hands-on, collaborative environment focused on precision, safety and quality control
Qualifications
* A degree in chemistry, ideally with a focus on organic synthesis
* Enthusiasm and a desire to learn; motivated to understand new processes, improve skills, and contribute to the team's success
* Good team player; collaborative, communicative and respectful of others' input
