Team East Devon – more than just a job
East Devon's Housing Service has made significant progress in recent years, transforming the way we support our tenants and communities. With improved outcomes, strong regulatory feedback and recognition from our peers, we've laid down solid foundations. Now, we're entering an exciting new phase – one focused on raising standards even further, embracing innovation and growing our impact.
Join us at this key moment and be part of shaping the future of council housing in East Devon.
At East Devon, we're proud to do things differently. Our Housing Service is made up of skilled professionals from diverse backgrounds who bring energy and expertise to their roles every day. We're united by one goal: delivering for our residents.
The primary function of our Property & Asset team is to deliver a decent home for all. We want to ensure our housing stock is compliant with all statutory regulations and are safe and secure homes to live in. We have approximately 4,200 properties including houses, bungalow and flats as well as a number of garages, houses of multiple occupancy, community centres, sewage treatment plants and communal grounds.
You will support the delivery of our planned works programme focusing on the delivery of improvement works in line with our Climate Strategy for reducing reliance on fossil fuels and building fabric and insulation improvement within our housing stock. You'll also develop specifications, tenders and contracts for major repairs and improvement works incorporating appropriate retrofit energy efficiencies. In addition, you'll work closely with our Planned Works & Climate Change Manager and other colleagues within the wider surveyor and compliance teams.
Our dedicated surveyors are proactive and able to make informed decisions based on their industry knowledge and expertise. They are self-starters who are able to manage their time effectively and work with others collaboratively, using their excellent communications skills to develop effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors and, most importantly, our residents and customers.
About you
You are a qualified building surveyor with a solid understanding of CDM regulations, building standards, and housing legislation, and you're committed to delivering high-quality planned maintenance and improvement works. With excellent communication and organisational skills, you're confident managing contractors, preparing specifications, and engaging with tenants to ensure a customer-focused service.
You take a proactive approach to problem-solving, prioritise health and safety, and are passionate about improving housing standards and sustainability across East Devon's property portfolio.
A driving licence is essential to this role as you'll need to travel as required (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).
