Lambeth Palace Library is looking for a Project Coordinator: Archives to join their dynamic team as part of the National Church Institutions. The role focuses on processing, interpretation, and promotion of the Library’s collections to support research and outreach activities.
About the Department/Role
The Church Commissioners manage historic assets of the Church of England, including research into their links to transatlantic chattel enslavement. The role involves cataloguing records, supporting research, and engaging with diverse audiences about these histories.
Founded in 1610, Lambeth Palace Library houses collections from the 9th century to today, serving as a research center in ecclesiastical history and more.
The Library's vision is to preserve and share the memory of the Church of England for all to explore and understand.
What You'll Be Doing
1. Participate in outreach activities to engage diverse audiences and support research into historic links to transatlantic chattel enslavement.
2. Catalogue archives using specialist software, update research guides, and upload records.
3. Assist readers and researchers, supervise Reading Room activities, and support research inquiries.
4. Enhance collections knowledge through professional development.
5. Ensure the security and proper handling of collections.
6. Contribute to wider team projects and initiatives.
All staff share responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
About You

Skills and Experience (Essential)
* Proficient IT and communication skills.
* Interest in historical collections and research.
* Ability to work sensitively in complex historical areas.
Knowledge/Experience (Essential)
* Understanding of African chattel enslavement history.
* Experience in research, cataloguing, and promoting heritage collections.
Personal Attributes
* Interpersonal skills, teamwork, organization, resilience, accuracy, and ability to work under pressure.
Education
Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in archives management.
Circumstances
* Ability to handle diverse formats and conditions, including manual handling and working at height.
Desirable
* Experience in archive cataloguing, reading historical handwriting, producing finding aids, supervising public access, and promoting collections.
