We are welcoming applications for the role of Payroll Technician with Dorset Police based at the following location(s): Police Headquarters, Exeter, Police Headquarters, Winfrith, Dorset

Salary:
£26,106 rising to £28,653 per annum + Excellent Benefits including Government Pension

Winfrith, Dorchester or Exeter, Devon

Hours per week:
This role is 37 hours per week. However, we welcome applications from individuals wishing to work on a part-time basis and we are willing to consider flexible working patterns subject to business need.

About the role:

PURPOSE

To perform a range of payroll and pension functions in support of Force policies and regulations; specifically provide a payroll service which is accurate and achieved to challenging deadlines.

To act as a point of liaison with stakeholders on all pay matters – including internal colleagues, Officers and staff as well as external bodies such as HMRC, CSA etc.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

* Interpret data from different providers and perform calculations, coding and input of payroll information, including, for example, permanent and temporary deductions, sickness, maternity, student loans, tax code changes, payment of arrears. Update payroll system accordingly.
* Deal with all payroll queries from members of staff including those relating to tax, National Insurance and entry level pension queries.
* Deal with external requests for payroll information such as mortgage requests, CSA queries.
* Deal with internal requests to advise on any potential overpayment given a late notice of a change of circumstances and to provide statements of potential earnings to be used in respect of legal cases.
* Administer systems for time recording to ensure that payments outside of stated timescales are paid or recovered as required.

Type of working arrangement:
Static-Worker - A Static-Worker has little or no opportunity to work remotely as they need to carry out their work at a specific force premises, this could be for a number of reasons including the location of equipment.

Temporary Role Duration:
30/11/2026

If you are not currently a police staff employee and are successful for this post, you will be offered a Fixed Term contract.

Please note that applicants applying for an internal or external secondment should seek support from their current line manager for their temporary release from their substantive role before applying. External secondment requests will need to be supported by the Force Executive. At the end of the secondment the successful applicant(s) would return to their substantive role. However, if in the meantime the releasing department is subject to review, the successful applicant(s) would be included in that review as if still in post.
