An innovative engineering organisation is seeking a skilled Prototype Wire Person to support the development of cutting-edge electronic and mechanical systems.
Working at the interface between Engineering and Production, you’ll play a key role in building, wiring, and modifying prototypes in a fast-paced R&D environment. This is a hands-on position suited to someone with strong practical skills and a passion for high-quality assembly work.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out prototype wiring and cable assembly, including soldering, crimping, and harnessing
* Assemble mechanical and electromechanical components from drawings and schematics
* Interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials (BOMs)
* Build and modify prototypes during development phases
* Perform rework and implement design changes as required
* Conduct basic inspection and testing (e.g. continuity checks)
* Ensure all work meets quality standards (e.g. IPC-A-610 / IPC-A-620)
* Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve build and design issues
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workspace
* Follow production documentation including job cards, test plans, and process instructions
* Support documentation activities such as writing or updating SOPs where required
About You
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience in wiring, cable assembly, or electromechanical assembly
* Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
* Skilled in soldering, crimping, and bench assembly techniques
* High attention to detail and commitment to quality
* Good manual dexterity and practical problem-solving skills
* Able to work independently and as part of a team
* Eligible to obtain UK security clearance
Desirable:
* Experience in prototype or R&D environments
* Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610 / IPC/WHMA-A-620)
* Basic electrical testing knowledge (e.g. multimeters, continuity testing)
* Mechanical assembly experience (fasteners, torque, alignment)
* Surface mount experience
