To find out more about NHS Ayrshire and Arran please visit our website - NHS Ayrshire & Arran - Home (nhsaaa.net) Position: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and creative Band 5 or Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy Adult Team, based at Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine. The successful candidate will be well supported by an established SLT team to work flexibly across our inpatient and outpatient service. In this diverse role you will develop your existing skills, gaining experience in both stroke and neurological rehabilitation as well as a wide range of clinical specialities. Candidates who meet the Person Specification requirements at Band 5 will progress to Band 6 following completion of set competencies, with an anticipated timeframe of 2 years. Candidates who already meet the Person Specification requirements at Band 6 will also be considered. Hours: From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings. 37 hours per week over 5 days. UK Driving Licence/Car Ownership: A UK car licence/car ownership is essential to this role. What you will do: The post holder will be work collaboratively with the ward staff and the wider MDT to promote Inclusive Communication environments, alongside supporting best practice in communication and dysphagia. Knowledge and/or experience of working with the stroke population within an inpatient and/or community based setting is advantageous. You will be allocated a Flying Start mentor and supported to complete your RCSLT NQP competencies. Your post will be funded to complete dysphagia training. Regular support, supervision and opportunities to enhance your skills will be provided in line with Turas. This post will converted to a Band 6 role on successful completion of agreed competencies. Candidates who already meet the Person Specification requirements at band 6 will also be considered.
