WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking an experienced and diligent Technical Assurance Assessor – Gas & Renewables to provide independent oversight and assurance of all gas, air source heat pump, and renewable technology activities across Eco Approach.
This role will ensure compliance with Gas Safe Register requirements, MCS standards, statutory regulations, and industry best practice, while also acting as a technical authority to drive improvements in safety, quality, and competence. Reporting directly to the Head of HS&C, the Technical Assurance Assessor will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and reputation of our services.
KEY RESPONSBILITIES
•Conduct technical audits and inspections of gas installations, servicing, and maintenance works.
•Audit and assure air source heat pump (ASHP) installations and other renewable technology systems (e.g. solar thermal, hybrid heating).
•Ensure compliance with the Gas Safe Register, MCS certification schemes, and all relevant statutory requirements.
•Assess engineer competence across both gas and renewable disciplines, providing feedback and coaching.
•Review and verify technical documentation, certification, and installation records for both gas and renewables.
•Identify non-conformances, root causes, and improvement opportunities, ensuring lessons learned are implemented.
•Support incident and near-miss investigations related to gas and renewable installations.
•Advise management on technical risks in both traditional and renewable heating technologies.
•Stay up to date with legislation, technical standards, and industry best practice for gas and renewable systems.
•Produce technical assurance reports for the Head of HS&C and senior leadership.
•Work collaboratively with operations, SHEQ, and compliance teams to ensure consistent technical standards across the business.
SKILLS/ QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Skills & Qualifications Required
Essential:
•Current or former Gas Safe registered engineer with proven experience in installation, servicing, and compliance.
•Practical experience with air source heat pumps and renewable heating technologies.
•Strong knowledge of Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations, MCS standards, and industry codes of practice.
•Experience conducting audits, assessments, or technical quality assurance in gas and/or renewable sectors.
•Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide constructive feedback and technical coaching.
•Strong problem-solving ability, high attention to detail, and commitment to safety and compliance.
•Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
Desirable:
•ACS qualifications across multiple categories (domestic and/or commercial).
•MCS certification experience and familiarity with renewable industry accreditations.
•Experience working in housing, compliance, or energy/renewables service delivery.
•Previous experience working with regulatory bodies, auditors, or client assurance teams.
