Job Overview

Advanced Robotic/Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship – April 2027 to April 2028.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a full‑time Advanced Robotic Colorectal Fellow for a 12‑month fixed‑term post commencing April 2027.

Supervised by Professor Shakil Ahmed, Clinical Director of Colorectal Surgery, within one of the UK’s largest robotic colorectal units.

Ideal for post‑CCST / post‑CCT colorectal surgeons, including international applicants, who wish to consolidate advanced expertise in pelvic oncology, complex colorectal surgery and robotic‑assisted procedures prior to consultant appointment.


Main Duties

This post allows a senior post‑CCST trainee to experience all facets of patient management from diagnostics through the MDT process to treatment and follow‑up. Besides routine colorectal services, LUHFT offers specialist services including:

* Regional exenteration centre in collaboration with urology and gynaec‑oncology
* Regional peritoneal carcinomatosis service
* Specialist Early Rectal Cancer (SERC) with TEMS procedures – candidates are expected to gain expertise
* Inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor and TEMS services

The unit operates within a JAG‑accredited endoscopy service. Training in advanced colonoscopy will be encouraged.

Qualifications

* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification


Eligibility

* Eligible for registration with the General Medical Council


Experience

Essential criteria:

* Satisfactory completion of Foundation training or equivalent
* Previous experience in colorectal surgery

Desirable criteria:

* CCST in colorectal surgery
* MD or higher degree
* Presentations at national or international level
* First‑author publications in PubMed‑cited journals

Must have appropriate UK professional registration. Post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) and requires Disclosure and Barring Service submission.
