ERM recently launched ERM Climate Markets to leverage ERM’s expertise to help build the carbon credit projects of tomorrow. We are seeking an experienced financial modeler with carbon market experience to join this dynamic area of ERM.
The Carbon Financial Modeler is a core member of the ERM climate markets team, supporting the commercial structuring lead. Responsible for building robust financial models related to investment in carbon assets, including project development. Involved in origination and evaluation of financial viability for carbon investment opportunities and liaising with corporate funders. Responsible for managing financial risk across the portfolio.
The ideal candidate has 7+ years’ experience in financial modelling in related fields (renewable energy, oil and gas) and 3+ years in carbon markets, including project development. A team player with initiative, problem-solving skills, and ability to identify issues.
Responsibilities:
* Assess financial return of carbon projects and portfolios, projecting multi-decade cash flows and evaluating capital expenditures.
* Develop predictive financial models for decision-making.
* Articulate outcomes of sensitivity and scenario analyses for management.
* Prepare documentation to seek funding from investors.
* Interface with ERM finance and tax for investment strategies.
* Track financial data and alert stakeholders of deviations.
* Guide buying/selling carbon credits, investments, and funding.
* Research industry data to predict trends and develop financing strategies.
* Create reports for strategic decisions.
* Develop forecasting tools for data analysis automation.
Skills and qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in finance, economics, statistics, or related experience.
* Knowledge of carbon markets and project development.
* Proven experience in financial modelling, especially of greenfield carbon projects.
* Experience with blended finance models.
* Strong analytical skills.
* Proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, and financial software.
* Experience monitoring investments and reporting.
* Understanding of accounting principles.
* Team-oriented with good interpersonal skills.
* Ability to handle large datasets.
* Strategic thinking and organizational skills.
* Advanced financial modelling skills.
