Job overview


· To undertake all duties associated with the provision of a modern Interventional Radiology(IR) / Cardiology service, providing a high standard of care at all times.

· To participate in the supervision and training of student radiographers and Interventional Radiology/Cardiology trainees.

· Undertake out-of-hours and on-call duties as necessary within the modality.




Advert


· To perform a wide variety of specialised interventional radiology- cardiac procedures and examinations as service needs required by radiology.

· Undertake on call duties as necessary.

· Able to deal with high pressure demands from service users, ensuring patient care is not compromised.

· Work as part of a team in interventional radiology/cardiology within the Trust, but also autonomously, prioritising and managing own workload.

· Work as part of a multi disciplinary team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


· Provide a full range of clinical examinations performed within the departments, ensuring high standards of clinical practice are maintained and to be responsible for the quality of own work and that of Band 5 trainees and Student Radiographers under supervision where applicable.

· Plan and undertake all duties required in the provision of the radiographic service within a specialised (modality) working environment.

· Ensure that high quality images are produced on all ranges of patients, adapting techniques to accommodate the clinical, physical and mental needs of the patient and ensuring patient care at all times.

· Registered with the Healthcare Professionals Council. Works within the HCPC professional code of conduct and standards of proficiency. Works within the policies, procedures and guidelines set by the Trust.

· Adhere to departmental protocols

· Practice in accordance with the current legislation governing the use of ionising radiation for medical and other purposes. Implementing Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2024 (IRMER).

· Adhere to departmental safety guidelines ensuring patient and staff safety at all times. Perform pre-examination patient checks.

· Able to diffuse potentially aggressive situations involving patients, relatives or carers effectively and to be aware of the sites of alarms and to utilise personal safety alarms if necessary.

· Able to deal with verbal complaints efficiently and effectively completing all documentation.

· Communicate effectively with patients in all age ranges and abilities to gain a positive identification as per IRMER 2024 and their co-operation in order to obtain high quality images.

· Communicate effectively with all grades of staff and clinicians, both within and out with the department, to ensure an efficient service and compliance with IRMER 2024 Regulations.

· Work with the modality Service/Team Leader to Manage/co-ordinate the day-to-day workload of the modality area with multidiscplinary team

· Prioritise workflow to meet the needs of the patient; liaising effectively with other members of the team, wards, departments and clinical colleagues across the Trust.

· Be responsible for the accurate completion of all records, including the appropriate section of all care pathways in which they are involved.

· Utilise clinical skills to recognise and act upon emergency situations, i.e., cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, adverse reactions to contrast agents.

· To participate in the cardiac intervention on call or extended hours service within specialist area.

· Utilise IT skills to input data onto the Interventional radiology stock management system, the Radiology Information System, including patient and examination details, ensuring patient confidentiality. Utilise IT skills in the use of the Electronic Patient Record and the Hospital PACS System.

· To undertake any other duties as requested by senior staff.

Professional Duties

· Effective cleaning and disinfection of radiographic equipment and ancillary equipment in line with the Trust's Infection Control Policy and the IR(ME)R 2017 Regulations (prior to repair/services) and that all documentation is completed.

· Work as part of a team but also autonomously, prioritising and managing own workload.

· To undertake and record a range of relevant Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

· To report all incidents, clinical/non clinical via the standard reporting mechanism.

(Escalate, where appropriate, to Service Leads with responsibility for Risk Management).

· Maintain awareness of current trends in all professional matters in the field of practice.

· Supervise, support and teach Student Radiographers on clinical placement and d mentor newly qualified Radiographers joining the Team.

· Successful completion of a Cert or equivalent in the selected speciality and completion of in house training competencies.

· Participate in the workplace induction process, ensuring all equipment training documentation is completed as required by IRR17

· Attend all Mandatory Training days as stated by the Trust.

· Advise staff from other departments/wards etc. on IRR17 and IR(ME)R 2017 Regulations.

· Actively participate in service and self-development by attending study days/courses as appropriate.

Managerial Duties

· No specific managerial duties, however the role involves working within the speciality including out of hours. Operational issues may arise whereby decisions may have to be taken in order to resolve problems in a timely manner in the absence of senior staff.

Financial Duties

· Ensure all Trust resources are utilised in an appropriate manner & not wasted.

Managing Self

· Identify, develop and agree own development plan with Line Manager using the Trust appraisal scheme

· Participate in regular supervision.

· Attend all mandatory training.

· Participate annually identifying, developing and agreeing your own development plan with your Line Manager using the Trust Appraisal.

· Comply with all Trust policies, procedures and protocols.

· Carry out duties with due regard to the Trust's Equal Opportunity Policy.

· Seek advice and support from Line Manager whenever necessary.

· Maintain professional conduct including appearance at all times.

· Ensure maintenance of Professional Registration.

· Be aware of and comply with the Trust and Departmental systems of work and policies, i.e. Health & Safety, COSH, manual handling and incident reporting

You may be required to undertake a DBS. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £54.40, Standard £26.40 or Basic £26.40) from your salary when you commence in post (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £16 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
