Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a fully qualified Anatomical Pathology Technician to join the mortuary team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as the Deputy Mortuary Manager. The post is established to support the Mortuary Service Manager and work within the team of APTs & MEOs in the organization of a safe, secure, effective & comprehensive mortuary, post mortem & Medical Examiner’s office/service for the needs of the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust & the wider community.


Responsibilities

* Assist the Mortuary Service Manager and work with APTs & MEOs to ensure a safe, secure, and efficient mortuary and associated services.
* Provide technical assistance, dissection skills and input to the post mortem examination service; undertake external examinations of deceased as applicable to the Medical Examiner’s Services.
* Work alongside MEOs who act as a conduit for bereaved families; handle the deceased from admission to release, maintain records and databases, and support all post mortem room duties as directed by the Service Manager & Pathologist.
* Maintain professionalism, confidentiality and a compassionate, empathetic approach in all interactions.
* participate in an on-call rota for out-of-hours APT duties.


Qualifications

* RSPH/RIPHH Certificate & Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (or level 3 & level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology).
* Ideally 5 years post Diploma/Level 4 mortuary experience.
* Registered with the Academy for Healthcare Sciences and/or possess Science Council Registration; member of the Association of Anatomical Pathology Technologists.
* Good understanding of medical terminology to work effectively with MEOs and provide a comprehensive service for the bereaved.

* High degree of professionalism, compassionate, empathetic and mature attitude.
* Vigilant about confidentiality and able to work within organisational policies.


Contract details

* On-call rota for out-of-hours APT duties.
* Chief APT/Deputy Mortuary Manager will assist with processes relating to handling of the deceased from admission to release, upkeep of records and databases and post mortem room duties as directed.
