Police Community Support Officer - Brighton and Hove Division
We are opening our recruitment for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) to join the Brighton & Hove Division.
Role Overview: As a key link with communities across Sussex, PCSOs play a vital role in maintaining safety, protecting vulnerable individuals, and preventing harm. You should possess excellent communication skills, be a good listener, calm, confident, and compassionate. Above all, caring about the community and wanting to make a difference are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct highly visible foot patrols.
2. Reassure the public after minor crimes or anti-social behaviour.
3. Build relationships with community, religious, and business leaders.
4. Engage with young people and schools.
5. Visit homes to gather intelligence.
6. Collect CCTV evidence.
7. Assist with missing person enquiries.
8. Protect crime scenes until officers arrive.
9. Provide crime prevention and safety advice.
10. Support at public events like sports or demonstrations.
PCSOs do not have arrest powers but can issue fixed penalty notices, require contact details, and seize drugs. More about PCSO powers can be found here.
Eligibility Criteria:
* Be at least 17 years old at application, 18 before starting.
* Have lived in the UK for three continuous years prior to application.
* Hold indefinite leave to remain and work in the UK.
* Have GCSEs in Maths and English (A*-C/9-4) or Level 2 equivalent, to be obtained if not already held.
* Possess a full UK manual driving licence (by appointment).
* Not be a member of certain organisations like BNP.
* No tattoos that could offend.
* Have no more than six penalty points.
* Not have served a prison sentence.
Benefits and Additional Information:
* Starting salary: £27,747 plus approx. £6,146.16 shift allowance.
* Fully-funded Level 4 Diploma in Community Policing Practice.
* Annual leave of 177.6 hours, increasing with service.

* Work shifts covering Monday to Sunday, 8:00 am to midnight, including weekends and bank holidays.
* Role initially for 24 months, with potential for a permanent contract after successful completion of the apprenticeship.
