Overview
SRM are preparing for the commencement of a major programme of construction works in Port Talbot, South Wales. The works will involve heavy construction/civil engineering across a variety of industrial fronts over the next 3 to 4 years, starting with enabling works ahead of the main programme commencing Q3: 2025. This is an opportunity for a Package Manager with experience on large multi-million-pound, multi-disciplinary projects to join our team in Port Talbot on an interesting, complex and technically challenging project. The project value will be in excess of £200m and will be undertaken under an NEC form of contract.

The Package Manager role
As a key member of the project team, reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, coordination and management of a number of sub-contractors across a range of trades within the project area. The role requires a high level of interfacing between internal departments and external agencies, such as Architects, Engineers, Construction Workers, Sub-contractors, Client agents, Clerk of Works and Site Staff. The coordination and management of the works contractors is a key responsibility as the project will be delivered under a Construction Management form of contract (NEC 4). You will ensure SRM obligations to the client and works contractors are understood and discharged in line with contract conditions. You will also organise and conduct weekly site progress meetings with the works contractors to monitor logistical interfaces, programme, progress, quality and safety, and you will keep the Chief Engineer and Project Manager/Project Director updated on all issues.
Responsibilities
* Oversee design coordination and management of sub-contractors across multiple trades within the works area.
* Interface between internal departments and external stakeholders (Architects, Engineers, Construction Workers, Sub-contractors, Client agents, Clerk of Works and Site Staff).
* Coordinate and manage works contractors under NEC 4 Construction Management form of contract.
* Ensure SRM obligations to the client and contractors are understood and discharged per contract conditions.
* Organise and run weekly site progress meetings to monitor logistics, programme, progress, quality and safety; provide updates to the Chief Engineer and Project Manager/Project Director.
* Collaborate with project planning to support a look-ahead programme and interface with the project planner as needed.
Qualifications and skills
* Ideally a degree in civil engineering, heavy construction, construction management or a construction-related field.
* Must be a team player with a hands-on, can-do attitude.
* Site-based role as a key member of the project team.
* IT proficiency is essential.
* Ability to prepare a 3-week look-ahead programme with assistance from the project planner.
* Proven experience in package management on large projects.
* Experience as a Temporary Works Coordinator would be advantageous.
* Knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant regulations and quality standards.
* Currently working towards or in possession of a construction industry professional membership (e.g., ICE, CIOB, RICS, IStructE, etc.).
* Ideally located in South Wales within daily commuting distance of Port Talbot.
