Offer description

The Enterprise Architect (EA) is a technology leader responsible for shaping, governing, and guiding the organisation’s technology landscape to ensure it is coherent, scalable, secure, and aligned with long‑term business strategy. Operating across a complex multi‑site manufacturing and supply‑chain environment, the EA ensures that technology decisions support operational performance, production efficiency, logistics optimisation, and end‑to‑end supply‑chain visibility. This role uniquely combines strategic enterprise architecture leadership with hands‑on solution architecture delivery. The EA must operate confidently at both conceptual and practical levels, producing high‑quality solution designs while influencing senior stakeholders and guiding delivery teams. Although the organisation has dedicated Infrastructure, Data, and Security teams, the EA plays a pivotal role in ensuring that application and technology decisions align with these domains and integrate effectively with manufacturing systems, warehouse operations, logistics platforms, and supply‑chain processes. The EA must therefore possess a strong understanding of these areas, collaborate closely with domain specialists, and ensure that application and technology architectures integrate seamlessly with infrastructure platforms, data strategies, and security frameworks. The EA acts as a trusted advisor to senior business and operational leaders, translating business ambition into actionable architectural direction. The role requires deep technical expertise, strong business acumen, and the ability to influence across a complex, multi‑site organisation. The EA is accountable for defining architectural standards, shaping technology roadmaps, ensuring architectural integrity across programmes, and guiding delivery teams through the design and implementation of complex solutions. This includes producing high‑level designs, defining integration patterns, identifying risks and assumptions, and ensuring that solutions are delivered in line with enterprise principles. This role carries delegated authority to resolve issues and risks across a wide range of activities, often involving significant complexity, cross‑functional impact, and strategic importance. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Translating Strategy into Action Lead the development and continual refinement of enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and roadmaps across application and technology domains, with a strong focus on manufacturing, warehousing, and supply‑chain operations. Translate strategic objectives into actionable architectural initiatives that improve operational efficiency, production performance, logistics flow, and customer fulfilment. Engage with senior business and operational leaders to ensure alignment between strategic priorities, technology direction, and investment decisions. Apply hands‑on solution architecture expertise to shape and validate complex systems, integrations, and cross‑functional solutions across ERP, WCS, MES, and related platforms. Ensure that architectural decisions support long‑term sustainability, operational efficiency, and future‑readiness. Understanding the Ecosystem Develop a deep understanding of organisational interdependencies, legacy constraints, and operational realities across manufacturing sites, warehouses, and logistics networks. Maintain a holistic view across portfolios and architectural domains to reduce duplication, simplify processes, and modernise legacy systems. Work collaboratively with Infrastructure, Data, and Security teams to ensure application and technology decisions align with platform capabilities, data governance, and security requirements. Provide architectural insight to support investment decisions, business cases, and long‑term operational planning. Setting Standards and Principles Establish and maintain architectural principles, policies, patterns, and standards that guide application and technology decision‑making across operational and enterprise systems. Ensure business, technology, and data decisions align with enterprise strategy and long‑term organisational goals. Provide architectural governance and oversight to ensure solutions adhere to agreed patterns, standards, and strategic direction. Lead design assurance activities, reviewing and approving solution architectures for major initiatives, including manufacturing and supply‑chain transformation programmes. Horizon Scanning and Community Development Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and market shifts to identify opportunities and risks relevant to manufacturing automation, warehouse optimisation, and supply‑chain digitalisation. Provide thought leadership on architectural best practice, innovation, and technology adoption. Mentor architects, engineers, and delivery teams to uplift capability and embed architectural thinking across the organisation. Contribute to communities of practice and knowledge‑sharing forums. Solution Architecture Responsibilities Produce high‑level designs, conceptual models, and architectural diagrams that clearly articulate solution intent across enterprise and operational systems. Define integration interfaces, data flows, system interactions, and non‑functional requirements, including real‑time operational needs. Align business requirements with technical solutions, ensuring feasibility, clarity, and alignment with enterprise direction. Identify risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies, and communicate them effectively. Support delivery teams during implementation, providing clarification, guidance, and architectural oversight. Manage stakeholders across business and IT to ensure shared understanding and alignment throughout the delivery lifecycle. Lead vendor and technology evaluations, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and operational requirements. Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and aligned with long‑term strategic direction. KEY EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Experience 8–12 years of IT experience, including 3–5 years in architecture roles, with proven experience in architecture, solution design, or technical leadership roles. Proven experience in the manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, or warehousing sectors. Extensive experience producing high level designs, architectural diagrams, and integration specifications. Proven experience leading or governing large, complex programmes. Experience transitioning from legacy systems to modern platforms and cloud-based architectures. Experience influencing senior stakeholders and operating in complex matrix environments. Experience collaborating with Infrastructure, Data, and Security teams to ensure cohesive architectural outcomes. Knowledge & Skills Deep understanding of application and technology architecture, integration patterns, and modern technology platforms. Strong ability to translate business requirements into clear, feasible technical designs. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to convey complex concepts to non-technical audiences. Ability to build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups and ensure their needs are reflected in strategic roadmaps. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate issues and propose practical solutions. Understanding of large‑scale change management and the end‑to‑end impact of technology decisions across multiple functions. Forward‑thinking mindset with the ability to anticipate issues and identify practical solutions. Self‑motivated, organised, and able to produce clear documentation independently. Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose problems quickly and effectively. Preferred Certifications Certifications are highly desirable for this role and demonstrate professional credibility: TOGAF (Foundation or Practitioner) SAFe Architect (or equivalent Agile architecture certification) AWS / Azure / GCP Professional certification ITIL Foundation Architecture modelling tools (e.g., ArchiMate, UML) CISSP or equivalent security certification (advantageous for cross domain collaboration)
