Smart Education is working in partnership with a nurturing and progressive alternative provision in Middlesbrough to recruit a committed Maths Teacher. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with learners aged 11–16 who face a range of challenges, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD).
As a Maths Teacher in this specialist setting, your lessons will go beyond equations—you'll be giving students the tools to think critically, solve problems, and gain the confidence to navigate life with independence.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Maths lessons that meet the diverse needs of learners
Foster a structured, inclusive, and safe classroom environment
Support students’ emotional and social development alongside academic progress
Collaborate with SENCOs, support staff, and pastoral teams to implement individualised learning plans
Promote positive behaviour and help students regulate and express their emotions constructivelyWe’re Looking For:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent
Previous experience teaching students with additional needs (SEN, PRU, or alternative provision preferred)
Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
A flexible, creative, and empathetic approach to teaching
Enhanced DBS (Child or Child & Adult Workforce), or willingness to obtain one
A genuine enthusiasm for making Maths engaging, relevant, and empowering
