The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons is the statutory regulator for the veterinary profession in the UK, thanks to the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, and also has a range of roles that are supported by our Royal Charter, including regulation of the veterinary nursing profession.

As a Royal College, we promote, encourage and advance the study and practice of the art and science of veterinary surgery and medicine. We do all these things in the interests of animal health and welfare, and in the wider public interest.

Practice Standards Scheme (PSS) as a voluntary Scheme to represent the standards of the veterinary profession. The Standards provide a regular framework for review of practice policy and adherence to legal and professional code of conduct requirements. The Scheme aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care, assessing practice premises on a four yearly cycle. Membership is nearly 70% of all UK eligible practices.


Job Purpose

The PSS Data and Monitoring Officer will support the Head of Legal Services PSS and the PSS Team in providing data and reports to help evidence the progress and compliance of veterinary practice premises within the Scheme. The post holder will extract and generate accessible and robust reports, analyzing information and monitoring progress and risk, managing databases and providing insight for internal and external stakeholders, as well as managing the PSS website pages and assisting with ongoing IT changes and improvements to support the Scheme.


Key Responsibilities

* Supporting the Head of Legal Services – PSS and other senior colleagues to plan and deliver PSS.
* Lead the co-ordination of data and monitoring activities for the PSS team ensuring that risk and compliance data is captured and monitored.
* Act as web coordinator for the PSS team: Post updates on the website and ensure that the PSS webpages remain up to date and relevant including changes to the PSS Standards on our software system
* Use a range of systems and programs
* Extract and develop a range of reports, providing analysis to assist with internal and external meetings.
* Be mindful of all Information Governance and Data Privacy best practice
* Support the continued improvement of our IT system through the management, creation and monitoring of scheduled tasks and the development of new data access and editing capability (be this on web or desktop delivery platforms).
* Undertake bulk updates of datasets.
* Identify new opportunities to leverage PSS data for the good of our members, staff and widest possible public benefit.
* Support with the enabling integration between internal systems as necessary and appropriate.
* Input into projects including the PSS change program and five yearly review of Standards and Awards by working with the PSS team and IT department to develop robust systems to meet the changing needs to the scheme.
* To undertake any reasonable additional duties as instructed by the RCVS within the spirit of the role and/or aims and objectives of RCVS.


Essential skills, knowledge & experience

* Experience of web development
* Experience of database management
* Excellent time management and proven ability to meet deadlines.
* Strong organisational skills including the ability to prioritise tasks.
* The ability to work accurately and strong attention to detail.
* Effective problem-solving skills and ability to determine solution-based approaches.
* Competence in the use of a variety of IT systems, including databases.
* Proficient user of Excel, able to input data, collate information, analyse data and create reports, charts and graphs.
* Ability to interpret and relay information in a timely manner.
* Able to build internal and external relationships through a positive, collaborative, approaches
* A commitment to continual improvement
* Confident working autonomously, whilst broadly under the direction of more senior staff


Desired skills & experience

* Experience of working for a regulatory authority or equivalent.
