We are seeking a dynamic and experienced media lawyer to join ITN’s Legal & Compliance team to advise Good Morning Britain (“GMB”) which is ITV’s flagship morning programme, being produced by ITN from 2026. We are looking for a solicitor or barrister with 5+ years PQE, ideally with experience advising news teams in broadcast / print / digital
This is a dynamic and interesting role helping to ensure GMB’s journalism is legally robust, Ofcom-compliant and ethically sound. You will provide legal and compliance advice to editorial teams pre and post broadcast and expected to navigate complex legal issues in a live, fast-paced broadcast environment as well as advise on news investigations, social media risks, public policy, commercial contracts and digital content regulation.
ITN is a global production powerhouse that produces news programming for ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 and thousands of hours of factual and live content for the major UK and international broadcasters and streaming platforms via ITN Productions, the award-winning creative content production arm of ITN.

1. Provide pre- and post-broadcast legal review of GMB content, including live segments, interviews, and investigative features
2. Advise on defamation, privacy, contempt, copyright, and regulatory compliance under Ofcom’s Broadcasting Code
3. Support editorial teams on sensitive stories, undercover reporting, and breaking news
4. Collaborate with ITN’s legal, editorial, and compliance teams to uphold journalistic standards and mitigate legal risk
5. Respond to legal complaints, regulatory challenges, and Ofcom investigations ensuring responses are well-founded and strategically aligned
6. Deliver training to GMB staff on media law, editorial compliance, and digital risk
7. Monitor developments in media regulation, online harms, and digital content law and advising on implications for GMB
8. Contribute to broader legal strategy on digital transformation, AI in content, and social media governance

9. Qualified solicitor or barrister with 5+ years PQE in media law, ideally with broadcast / print / digital experience
10. Deep understanding of UK defamation, privacy, contempt, and Ofcom and media regulation
11. Proven experience advising on fast-turnaround editorial content in a newsroom or broadcast setting
12. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence senior editorial stakeholders under tight deadlines
13. Calm under pressure, with excellent judgement and a pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset
14. The stature and credibility to influence and support senior journalists, editors, and producers on complex editorial decisions
