Based within the Council's Planning Service, the Enforcement Team investigates all potential breaches of planning control, from initial receipt through to prosecution. You will report to the Development Manager (Enforcement) and support the Assistant Planning Enforcement Officers, ensuring all cases are investigated in accordance with the Council's Enforcement Policy.
To apply for this role, it is essential that you have worked, and preferably managed, in planning enforcement previously and that you have an excellent technical knowledge and understanding of relevant planning legislation, and have experience in dealing with related appeals and prosecutions as a result of enforcement action taken. You will need to have excellent communication skills as you will be dealing with the general public, and you will need to be confident in your ability to deal with difficult situations to convey complex, detailed information.
RMBC currently operate a flexible working policy, allowing you to work from home, though you will also be required to come in to the office for a minimum of three days per week for full time staff. You will be required to make site visits in a large urban and rural area and so will need to hold a driving licence and have a car. Some out of hours work may be required if breaches occur at that time (such as hours of opening for take-aways etc).

Until 31st March 2026 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a monthly deduction from each pay period over the full financial year.
