The role
As a Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the delivery of a portfolio of safety‑critical Engineering Support Equipment in support of the Astute Major Long Refit Programme. This is a rare opportunity to operate at the intersection of high‑hazard engineering, people leadership and nationally important delivery.
Day-to-day, you’ll provide technical leadership and strategic direction to a team of Design Managers and Engineers, ensuring designs are robust, compliant and fit for purpose within a highly regulated environment. Beyond technical assurance, you’ll shape resourcing and supply‑chain strategies, balance competing priorities and work closely with customers and stakeholders to deliver complex engineering solutions that truly matter.
1. Leading the delivery of engineering portfolios, ensuring outputs meet safety, quality, cost and schedule requirements
2. Managing and developing engineering teams, providing technical oversight, coaching and clear direction
3. Ensuring engineering designs meet regulatory and safety standards, within a licensed nuclear environment
4. Co‑ordinating resourcing and supply‑chain strategies to support successful delivery
5. Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, acting as a trusted, customer‑facing engineering leader
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days a week on site/in the office.
Essential experience of the Engineering Manager
6. Proven experience applying systems engineering principles across the full design lifecycle
7. Experience leading delivery of engineering designs within a regulated or high‑hazard environment
8. Strong leadership experience, managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
9. Demonstrable experience delivering infrastructure or complex engineering solutions
10. Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and customers in demanding environments
Qualifications for the Engineering Manager
11. Degree in a STEM discipline, or equivalent professional experience
12. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or clear evidence of working towards registration
13. Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution
14. Chartered Engineer or Chartered Manager status - Desirable
