The Role
We are looking to recruit a Senior Biomedical Scientist at University Hospital Monklands.
The successful candidates will:
1. Manages and coordinates day-to-day technical activities of a section(s) of the department.
2. Responsible for standards and quality of performance of the section(s) including instrument problem solving and trouble shooting.
3. Processes a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in a Department of a Laboratory using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples.
4. Provides advice to clinicians as to appropriateness of tests and time-scales.
5. Develop and delivers training and assesses competence of Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical laboratory Assistants.

What we'll need you to bring
13. State registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory.
14. MSc in Biomedical Science or Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science or equivalent experience (at least 5 years experience as BMS1 and evidence of continued development in relevant discipline).
15. Formal evidence of highly specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures.
16. Evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialised portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation, learning through reflective practice.
17. For those staff reporting cervical cytology, the NHS Cervical Screening Programme Certificate in Cervical Cytology and compliance with NHSCSP guidelines is mandatory.
It would be good if you also had
18. Qualification in Leadership and Management or supervision or attendance at relevant management courses
19. Post registration professional qualifications such as specialist diplomas
20. Experience of supervision of sections of a cytology lab
21. Membership of IBMS
22. Significant experience of working in a routine cytology laboratory with post HCPC registration
23. Wide experience and understanding of audit and Quality Management systems.
24. Experience in training and competency assessment of staff
25. Undertaken Checkers role within Cervical Cytology
26. Experience in managing or supervising staff and workflow within sections of a Cytology service
27. Evidence of participation in Gyn EQA scheme/Proficiency testing
28. Andrology/Semenology experience
29. Wide knowledge of recent developments in Cytology
30. Knowledge of future challenges and developments in Cytology service
31. Extensive knowledge of laboratory computer systems, quality management systems and cytology laboratory equipment.
32. Understanding of laboratory accreditation including verification and validation of equipment and reagents
33. Ability to organise own workload to prioritise tasks to meet the laboratories objectives.
34. Ability to organise staff and workflow to ensure an effective and efficient service.
35. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
36. Skilled in the trouble shooting in the cytology laboratory equipment such as HPV platforms, Imager, Review scopes and T5000
37. Computer literate with experience of MS software or equivalent software. Ability to manipulate data for audit and statistical analysis
