University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Speciality Doctor in Rheumatology to join a well‑established team led by 2.6 WTE consultants and supported by registrars, clinical nurse specialists, and specialist physiotherapy and OT. The role involves assessment, follow‑up and monitoring of patients with inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disease, metabolic bone diseases and osteoarthritis, and may include joint injections and medical infusions on site.

Main duties of the job
- Provide a comprehensive service alongside consultant colleagues for diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to rheumatology.
- Responsible for continuing care and treatment of patients.
- Actively participate in undergraduate and postgraduate education.
- Provide cover for middle grade colleagues during leave, including patient care.
- Participate in clinical audit.
- Commit to the annual appraisal process.
- Maintain compliance with personal continuing professional development requirements.
- Stay aware of and act in accordance with professional guidelines.
- Undertake additional duties for limited periods within the specified geographical area or at other hospitals in the event of a major disaster or incident.

Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at commencement.
- MRCP or equivalent higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty.
Clinical Experience
- Experience in rheumatology at junior doctor level.
- Experience in acute medicine.
- Completed at least four years of full‑time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained part‑time or flexibly) with at least two years in rheumatology.
- Experienced in making clinical decisions and managing risk.
- Experience in rheumatology at registrar level.
Management and Administrative Experience
- Commitment to Continuing Professional Development and clinical governance requirements.
Audit/Research Experience
- Experience and commitment to clinical audit and/or Quality Improvement Projects (QIP).
- Evidence and ability to assess and apply evidence‑based research into everyday clinical practice.
Communication
- Experience of formal presentations.
- Evidence of working as part of an MDT and sharing administration duties.
Teaching Experience
- Evidence and experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students.
- Ability to teach clinical skills.
- Any teaching courses or qualifications.
- Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to under‑graduates.
