The Council are seeking to imbed a culture of continuous improvement and ensure delivery of a professional procurement service which influences the way our Council procure goods, services and works, ensuring we comply with procurement regulations whilst focusing on the delivery of cashable savings and sustainable outcomes for the Council’s spend of around £280 million per annum on procured goods, services and works. Within the recently updated structure for the procurement team, the Category Managers will work with full autonomy to undertake strategic thinking, planning and delivery of procurement activity across the People and Projects category area of spends within the Council. The successful candidate will be required to deliver a client focussed professional service, providing complex advice and challenging current practices within services on procurement related matters. The Category Manager is also responsible for commodity and contract strategy development and implementation, whilst providing a programme of support and engagement which can stimulates markets and local economic growth through input to the development and delivery of market facilitation plans. The successful candidate will be able to deliver financial and non-financial benefits, recognise opportunities and deliver added value for the Council. The category manager will manage a small team and will have access to wider support from our Procurement Policy & Development team. This is a Fixed Term post for a period of up to 12 months to cover a maternity leave. This post may be suitable for secondment.
