RMN Care Manager – Community Mental Health & Supported Living
Location: Central England (Regular travel required)
Reports To: Director of Clinical Services / Registered Manager SL & MH Service
Salary: £45-50,000
Contract Type: Permanent full time
Hours: Monday-Friday 40 hours per week
Job Purpose:
To lead and manage the operational and clinical delivery of community mental health and supported living services. This role ensures that individuals with complex and enduring mental health needs receive safe, high-quality, and person-centred support that promotes independence and recovery in the community. The RMN Care Manager will oversee service delivery, clinical governance, staff performance, and package management and compliance across multiple sites and community based settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Service & Operational Leadership
* Oversee day-to-day operations across supported living services and community-based care teams.
* Ensure services are delivered in accordance with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, contractual obligations, and internal policies.
* Monitor service delivery through audits, KPIs, and feedback, driving continuous improvement.
* Develop and implement operational plans to meet strategic goals, including service expansions or transitions.
Clinical Leadership & Governance
* Provide professional leadership to clinical teams, ensuring safe and effective care planning, risk management, and interventions.
* Uphold clinical standards through supervision, mentoring, and reflective practice.
* Support safeguarding, incident reporting, and root cause analysis in line with governance protocols.
* Ensure clinical documentation and assessments are accurate, timely, and aligned with best practice.
Team Management & Development
* Lead and support teams including RMNs, support workers, service coordinators, and MDT professionals.
* Oversee recruitment process (with recruitment team), induction needs, mandatory training needs, and professional development pathways.
* Foster a supportive and inclusive culture with a focus on service-user support, staff wellbeing, and retention.
* Manage team performance, conduct appraisals, and address concerns in line with HR policy.
Stakeholder & Partnership Engagement
* Act as a key liaison with commissioners, NHS partners, social care teams, and families.
* Attend case reviews, safeguarding meetings, and multidisciplinary forums.
* Promote collaborative working across statutory and voluntary services to enhance outcomes for service users.
Compliance & Reporting
* Ensure all services meet or exceed regulatory, contractual, and legislative requirements.
* Lead on preparations for inspections and reviews from the CQC and commissioning bodies.
* Provide regular reports to senior leadership on service performance, risk, incidents, and improvements.
Person Specification:
Essential
* Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with valid NMC PIN.
* Minimum 2 years' post-registration experience in mental health, with at least 1 in a leadership or management role.
* Proven track record in community mental health and/or supported living environments.
* Strong understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and CQC's regulatory framework.
* Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex caseloads in community settings.
* Ability to travel between multiple locations as needed.
Desirable
* Postgraduate qualification in management, health leadership, or similar.
* Experience working with people with dual diagnoses (e.g., substance misuse, learning disabilities, forensic mental health).
* Knowledge of supported living frameworks and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
