York City Rowing Club – Lead Coach, Junior Section

York City are looking to grow their junior section, bringing more success at local and national regattas as well as giving more young people opportunity to participate, in line with their ethos of rowing being available to all.

This is an exciting time to join a progressive club with a proven record in supporting junior development.

The role will have responsibility for leading, managing and organising all junior rower development at York City RC. We aim to ensure that all of our athletes are given the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

A key part of the role will be to coordinate assistant coaching support (mostly volunteers) to deliver the programme. We are also expecting engagement with identified local schools to raise the profile of the Club, and to support their indoor rowing programmes, as a means of identifying talent and facilitate pathways to water based rowing.

Key Responsibilities

* Coordinate and plan all junior training and development programmes and training sessions, including for high performance athletes.
* Attend and manage junior participation in regattas and other activities identified by the Junior Leadership team, such as NSR, Henley RR & HWR and British Championships, Performance Development Academies and opportunities for Continuing Professional Development.
* Be responsible for junior section administration, including coaching resources and development, entries, junior Learn to Row, training camps and towing to events.
* Be responsible for monitoring equipment and executing minor boat repairs and maintenance, liaising with the Boats Officer for major items.
* Ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing of all junior athletes under their care.
* Be responsible for increasing participation and junior membership to defined levels.
* Use social media to promote junior rowing at YCRC and recognise achievements.
* Help coach other sections of the Club, including senior groups if required, as hours allow.

Qualifications and experience:

Mandatory:

* Applicants will be expected to have experience of coaching juniors as part of a team, on a full time or part time basis.
* British Rowing Level 2 Club Coach accreditation, or equivalent.
* Recently undertaken a child welfare course.
* Clean driving licence (able to drive in the UK).
* RYA level 2 launch driving qualification and trailer driving experience, or willingness to obtain these.
* Experience of leading and/or supporting a rowing programme.
* Experience of writing a training programme.
* Experience of working with schools/external partners/organisations.
* Experience of growing membership and fundraising, such as grant applications, donations or squad events.

Working Arrangements:

* Holiday: 25 days per annum (10 days to be taken during August) plus Bank Holidays.
* References: The appointment is subject to receipt of references satisfactory to YCRC.
* The appointment is subject to enhanced DBS clearance.
* A 6 month probation period, with an interim review after 3 months at which time the position will be re‑viewed.

We are expecting the role to be self‑employed but may consider other options for the right candidate.
