Overview
The opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated doctor to join our Radiology department to complement the existing team of 5 musculoskeletal radiologists and 42 consultant radiologists in the wider department. The department offers a supportive and encouraging environment in which to develop as a professional. This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered and additional DCC PA may be offered through negotiation depending on service need.
Responsibilities
* Support and enable the musculoskeletal radiology team (6 substantive consultants, one on 12‑month career break) to provide a sustainable, excellent service throughout the year for acute and elective musculoskeletal pathways.
* Promptly vet, protocol, and report acute musculoskeletal imaging; provide advice to clinicians, radiologists, and radiographers.
* Be competent in musculoskeletal ultrasound and reporting musculoskeletal plain film, CT, and MRI examinations; expertise in image‑guided joint injections highly beneficial.
* Contribute to general radiology workload including acute CT and other general cross‑sectional reporting.
* Participate in the general diagnostic on‑call rota (approximately 1 in 20 weeknights and 1 in 10 weekends), while observing working time regulations and safe working standards.
* Engage with the outsourced overnight acute CT service and separate non‑vascular intervention rota.
* Optional: pursue additional subspecialty interests as service need dictates.
* Assume Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) in line with the Trust Framework (minimum 1.5 SPAs in the core 10‑PA timetable); additional SPA or DCC time possible for teaching or leadership roles.
* Negotiate provisional PA commitments to accommodate service requirements, with flexible working arrangements and tele‑radiology home workstation access via secure VPN.
* Accept pooled secretarial support and flexible office space arrangements depending on site presence.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
* Medical degree from a recognised medical school; FRCR or equivalent; post‑FRCR 2B subspecialty training in MSK imaging.
* Experience in general cross‑sectional reporting.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Demonstrated intelligent and analytical problem‑solving ability.
* Good time‑management skills.
* Effective communication with staff and patients.
* Caring, compassionate, flexible, adaptable.
* Willingness to master and use the trust’s internal systems and processes.
* Physical capacity to carry out the duties and evidence clinical competencies.
* Disclosure + Barring Service (DBS) clearance.
