Overview
The Out of Hours department provides high quality Out of Hours General Medical Services across Dumfries and Galloway. The service employs General Practitioners, Advanced Practitioners, Communication Co-ordinators and Healthcare Support Workers. This role focuses on efficiently communicating and co-ordinating all professional and patient calls that require a clinician’s attention during the overnight period.
Responsibilities
* Communicate and co-ordinate all professional and patient calls received into the Out of Hours Service Hub that require clinician attention during the night.
* Handle calls received electronically from NHS24 or direct calls from agreed professionals, including some patient groups such as Palliative/End of Life.
* Co-ordinate the deployment of calls to available staff, including support staff and duty clinicians.
* Work with a multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of the Out of Hours service.
* Undertake required shift work unsupervised prior to commencing each shift.
* Note: The Out of Hours service operates from 08:00 to 08:00, 365 days a year. Training is expected over 4 weeks, starting with daytime hours to acclimatise, followed by overnight duties for the remainder of training.
