SEND English Teacher – Exeter, Devon
Teaching Personnel is recruiting SEND English Teachers to work with pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in schools across Exeter and the surrounding areas.
This permanent, full-time role is ideal for qualified teachers who enjoy teaching English to pupils with a range of SEND needs and are confident delivering high-quality lessons across multiple classes. Candidates with an English specialism are highly desired.
Role Details
Role: SEND English Teacher
Salary: £34,822 – £51,047 per year + SEND allowance
Start date: ASAP
Contract: Permanent, full-time, term‑time only
Key Responsibilities
* Planning and delivering English lessons to pupils with a variety of SEND needs across multiple classes
* Providing 1:1 and small‑group support to meet individual learning and developmental needs
* Implementing EHCP targets, individual support plans, and behaviour support strategies
* Supporting pupils’ communication, engagement, social skills, and emotional regulation
* Leading interventions and adapting teaching approaches to meet pupils’ abilities and needs
* Supervising pupils during transitions, break times, and unstructured parts of the school day
* Ensuring pupils are fully included in all learning activities and school life
* Maintaining classroom management and a safe, supportive learning environment
* Collaborating closely with teaching assistants, SENCo, therapists, and other staff to ensure consistent provision
Candidate Profile
* Hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) (essential)
* Have experience supporting pupils with SEND (desirable but not essential)
* Be confident teaching English to pupils across multiple classes or year groups
* Have an English specialism (highly desired)
* Be calm, resilient, and adaptable
* Have strong communication, organisational, and relationship‑building skills
* Be passionate about helping pupils with SEND reach their potential
