What you’ll do
* Specialise in Quality Assurance and Control across Central Quality and project-based functions
* Support inspection and testing processes to ensure products meet rigorous standards
* Help develop and maintain quality documentation and procedures
* Work with production teams to resolve quality issues
* Contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement
* Ensure compliance with industry regulations, customer requirements, and internal standards
Education and training
As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll study for a BEng (Hons) in Engineering (Design and Manufacture) through Glasgow Caledonian University. Delivered through a blended learning model, typically one to two days of study per week during term time. The degree is co-designed with industry and accredited by the IET, IMechE, and InstMC. You’ll also receive structured training through Babcock to develop your understanding of quality systems and processes, including Internal Auditor training.
By the end, you’ll have a broad understanding of quality requirements—across international standards and industry best practice—and experience in process development and continuous improvement within a safety-first environment.
Future prospects
Upon successful completion, you’ll be ready for roles such as Quality Controller, Advisor, or Engineer at Babcock, with a starting salary of over £39,000. You’ll have opportunities for Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) membership, Lead Auditor qualifications, and experience across QA, QC, Central (strategic), and Business Improvement functions.
What you’ll need
* UCAS Tariff: 96 points
* Scottish Highers: BBCC or equivalent, including Maths and a science or technology subject
* Alternatively: Relevant Foundation Apprenticeships (one Higher at grade B) with SQA Highers; Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 in a related subject (two Highers at B) with SQA Highers; HNC in Electrical, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
* You’ll bring analytical and problem-solving skills, a detail-focused approach to preventing defects, and strong communication and teamwork abilities
* Some apprenticeships may be subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions
