Overview
Fixed Term Consultant Clinical Oncologist with an interest in Breast cancers, based at the Sussex Cancer Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, with sessions across the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. If the permanent post cannot be filled, this position will be offered as a fixed-term appointment for 6 months initially with a view to a further 6 months extension.
The Sussex Cancer Centre Oncology Service comprises a team of oncologists employed by University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, providing clinical and medical oncology care across 5 hospital locations in Sussex and acute service support in Chichester.
The appointee will work with the Urology site reference groups, a multi-professional team including clinical oncologists, medical oncologists, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists and cancer support workers, and will have an on-call commitment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital on a rota of greater than 1:9 (currently 1:17).
Main duties
The appointee will join a team of approximately 30 Clinical/Medical Consultant Oncologists delivering a comprehensive oncology service across Sussex (Worthing, Brighton, Haywards Heath, Eastbourne and Hastings). Key duties include regular outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary meetings attendance, SACT prescribing and oversight, radiotherapy planning, clinical supervision of non-medical staff, clinical governance, service development, ward reviews and on-call duties. The successful candidate is expected to participate in education for trainees at all levels and contribute to teaching and supervision of medical students, junior medical staff and allied health professionals/nurses.
