Position Summary: Our client is seeking a skilled and strategic Legal Counsel to join its in‑house legal team. This role will provide expert legal guidance across a range of areas including Labor & Employment Law, Transportation Law, Litigation & Claims, Customer & Revenue Contracts, Corporate & ESG Compliance, and Data Privacy (GDPR). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in logistics or transportation, and a proven ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Labor & Employment Law: Advise on employment practices, labor relations, workplace policies, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
* Transportation Law: Provide legal support on regulatory matters affecting freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and international shipping.
* Litigation & Claims: Manage and oversee litigation matters, including employment disputes, commercial claims, and regulatory investigations.
* Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate customer and revenue‑related contracts, ensuring alignment with business goals and legal standards.
* Corporate / ESG Compliance: Support ESG initiatives and ensure compliance with corporate governance, sustainability, and ethical standards.
* Data Privacy (GDPR): Advise on data protection strategies, privacy policies, and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.
* Cross‑functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments including HR, Compliance, Operations, and IT to mitigate legal risks and support strategic initiatives.
* Outside Counsel Management: Engage and manage external legal advisors as needed.
Qualifications
* Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
* Admission to practice law in relevant jurisdiction(s).
* Minimum 5‑7 years of legal experience, preferably in‑house or with a law firm serving logistics, transportation, or supply chain clients.
* Demonstrated expertise in at least three of the core areas listed above.
* Strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
* Experience working in a multinational or matrixed organization is a plus.
* Familiarity with GDPR and international compliance frameworks preferred.
Preferred Background
* Legal experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain sectors.
* Understanding of global trade regulations and customs compliance.
* IAPP certification or equivalent in data privacy is a plus.
