The Health Care Assistant (HCA) will work as part of the health advising team at the Brookside clinic providing care within the integrated sexual health service, working under the supervision and guidance of the Health Advisers.
The Health Adviser team is responsible for managing positive results, carrying out patient follow up (often by phone or digital means), managing vulnerable patients and taking a lead in safeguarding. The Health Advising HCA will support the team in these roles as well as carrying out phlebotomy, vaccinations and asymptomatic screening, including sexual history taking.
Applicants must be confident working both face to face and over the phone and have excellent attention to detail for managing results systems and patient follow up. Applicants should have strong interpersonal skills and be able to talk to people about highly sensitive subject areas.

Main duties of the job
1.To participate in health promotion in the clinic and the wider community environment.
2.To undertake asymptomatic screening of adults in line with Trust guideline as directed by health adviser.
3.To undertake phlebotomy in line with Trust guideline for patients re-attending for a repeat test at end of window period.
4.To be willing to support senior clinicians including the chaperoning of doctors examinations.
5.To undertake vaccination of adults in line with Trust guideline
6.To be responsible for the daily checking of all non-negative test results and notifying patients by their preferred method, updating clinical records.
9.To action provider referrals as delegated by health adviser
10.To work in co-operation with all other professionals and agencies involved in the care of the patient.
11.Liaise and co-operate effectively with the administrative and reception staff in order to maintain an effective patient pathway.
12.Recognise professional limitations of role and refer on appropriately.

Education and experience
Essential criteria
1. Communicates openly, honestly and professionally, and actively promotes team working and building strong working relationships.
2. NVQ3 or equivalent
3. Previous Healthcare Assistant experience in a sexual health service and/ or healthcare experience in admin setting
4. To have an understanding of current issues affecting the NHS
5. Computer literate
6. Understanding of sexual health issues

7. Experience in venepuncture
8. Understanding of child protection and vulnerable adult issues
