About the Opportunity
We are looking for a Assistant Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer to join our team and grow into a key contributor supporting and evolving our high-performance computing infrastructure. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career technologist passionate about Linux systems, computing performance, and scientific research support.
You will work with senior HPC engineers to manage systems, assist users, and develop your skills in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in managing HPC clusters using Slurm.
* Perform system administration tasks on RHEL and other Linux systems.
* Support and maintain license servers (FlexLM, RLM).
* Contribute to node deployment using xCAT and Ansible.
* Assist in hardware diagnostics and troubleshooting.
* Provide first-level user support, including account setup and job troubleshooting.
* Monitor system and cluster performance with tools like Nagios and Ganglia.
* Participate in security tasks, including vulnerability scans with Nessus.
* Support HPC storage systems like Pure Storage and NetApp.
* Learn and assist with networking tasks, including Infiniband.
Note: Due to system classification, remote working is not available. The support team works flexibly to ensure coverage during working hours, with no out-of-hours SLAs.
What You’ll Need:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or related field.
* Basic Linux system administration knowledge.
* Familiarity with scripting languages like Bash or Python.
* Interest in HPC and willingness to learn Slurm, xCAT, and Ansible.
* Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Ability to work independently with mentorship.
Preferred:
* Internship or academic experience in research computing or HPC.
* Exposure to job schedulers like Slurm or LSF.
* Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
* Projects involving distributed systems, networking, or parallel computing.
* Understanding of cybersecurity concepts.
