Job Overview
The post holder will be based with the CMHT and work with the integrated/single line team manager to ensure clinical leadership of the multi‑disciplinary team.
The post holder will assist with clinical supervision of the team, ensuring that robust management plans are in place for those in whom it is warranted. This is done as part of a meeting structure where the most clinically complex patients are discussed and reviewed with the whole team.
The post holder will assist in training team members in clinical matters.
The post holder will work collaboratively with Acute Care Services (inpatient and Home Treatment (HTT)). The community consultant is responsible for the longer‑term planning and provision of Section 117 aftercare arrangements and for the provision of suitable reports for Mental Health Act appeals.
The post holder will provide consultation and supervision for Primary Mental Health Services in their catchment area.
Consultants are expected to comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, a Welsh statutory law that ensures patients receive a high standard of care.
Clinical leadership within Acute Care settings.
Develop care plans and treatment formulations, provide guidance on evidence‑based treatment and effectiveness.
Provide Mental Health Act 1983 assessments when required.
Main Duties
* Manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Health Board’s personnel policies and procedures.
* Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
* Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to the necessary department.
* Participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
* Attend and participate in the academic programme of the Health Board, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
* Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act 1983 Section 12(2) approval, and abide by professional codes of conduct within the legal framework.
* Participate annually in a job plan review with the Clinical Director, to ensure that the post is developed in line with changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.
* Work with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure efficient running of services and share in the medical contribution to management.

Qualifications
Essential Criteria
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable Criteria
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Welsh AC Approval.
Eligibility
Essential Criteria
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
* Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Desirable Criteria
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Clinical Skills
Essential Criteria
* Evidence of training in the core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in leading a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Experience of community psychiatric practice.
