Civil Engineer x 3 - Dams/Reservoirs (UK wide)

Jacobs, Birmingham, England, United Kingdom

At Jacobs, we’re challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world’s most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission‑critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting‑edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

As an experienced Dams and Reservoir water management practitioner, you will be an integral part of our Water Catchment Management team, helping drive our extensive programme of high‑profile projects across multiple sectors.

Our UK Centre of Excellence is an integral part of a global team of 400 specialist reservoir engineers. Working alongside most of the major UK reservoir owners, in this newly created role, you will play a key role in the development and delivery of Reservoir engineering solutions covering the full life cycle of dams—from feasibility through to detailed design, inspections, studies, re‑engineering and discontinuance.

Working in partnership with major UK reservoir owners—including Environmental Agency (EA), Urquhart & Ure (UU), Northumbrian Water, Thames Water and Welsh Water—our team collaborates with disciplines such as hydrology, geotechnics, hydraulics, structural analysis and environment, delivering projects and engineering services ranging from statutory inspections and remedial works to design and construction of major new dams.

Our continued success and growth alongside the upcoming renaissance in UK dam building, including major new strategic resource option (SRO) reservoirs and pumped‑storage hydro projects, has resulted in a number of new opportunities. In this role you will be responsible for the technical delivery of appraisal projects and/or detailed design work packages for dam and reservoir engineering schemes.

Responsibilities

* Application of dam engineering in the delivery of appraisal and design of solutions.
* Pre‑feasibility through to detailed design of a range of reservoir engineering schemes.
* Leading and mentoring colleagues and peers through their technical and professional development.
* Bringing together ideas and expertise from multi‑disciplinary teams to identify and develop sustainable solutions.
* Supporting strong ongoing client relationships, whilst contributing to a collaborative delivery approach.
* Work to meet Health and Safety and overall project quality objectives.

Qualifications

* Experience in dam and reservoir engineering.
* Ambition to become a Supervising Engineer under the Reservoirs Act 1975.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Motivated to deliver high quality products to programme.
* Commitment to professional and personal development of self and others.
* Chartered with the Institution of Civil Engineers or ability to demonstrate you are working at a chartered level.
