Our mission is simple: to save lives at sea. Since the 19th century, our crews have risked their lives to rescue those in danger of drowning. We are seeking a Principal Naval Architect to join our Engineering team, responsible for the design, stability, and safety of all RNLI floating assets.

Your Role
9. Team Leadership: Guide and motivate the Naval Architecture team, setting clear goals and fostering innovation.
10. Talent Management: Oversee hiring, training, and development to build a skilled, resilient team.
11. Design Authority: Act as the primary Design Authority for Naval Architecture, ensuring adherence to design standards throughout an asset's life cycle. Serve as an engineering signatory, providing oversight and approval as needed.
12. Design & Development: Manage technical documentation and configuration control to support asset development and maintenance.
13. Compliance & Standards: Ensure designs comply with EAM Processes and Standards.
14. Budget Management: Oversee team budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources.
15. Project Collaboration: Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely, high-quality project delivery.
16. Technical Support: Provide expert technical support to coastal staff and volunteers.
17. Stakeholder Engagement: Work with boatyards, contractors, and suppliers to ensure project success.
18. Technical Investigations: Conduct investigations, trials, and analysis to resolve technical issues.
19. Industry Engagement: Engage with industry and academia to enhance engineering practices.
20. Strategic Development: Develop and implement the engineering strategy for Naval Architecture.
21. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks to ensure safety and reliability.
22. Innovation Promotion: Encourage innovation and the adoption of new technologies and ideas.
About You
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual with a passion for engineering and a commitment to saving lives at sea. To be considered, you should have:
Essential:
23. RINA-accredited Naval Architecture qualification (or equivalent).
24. Experience as a Senior or Principal Naval Architect.
25. Strong leadership and communication skills.
26. Chartered or Fellow engineer registration with the Engineering Council.
27. Experience in marine design and engineering environments.
Desirable:
28. Project management and leadership experience.
29. Risk management training (IOSH or equivalent).
30. Experience in designing or operating SAR vessels.
