Job Overview

The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We are looking for an urban drainage advisor with experience in sewer hydraulic modelling. This role is part of a national Water Quality Regulatory Development team in the Water Regulation directorate and focuses on designing and implementing new regulatory approaches to improve storm and emergency overflow programmes.

You will apply your experience of building and using hydraulic and modelling tools to inform sector guidance and assure programme delivery. Working proactively with Agency teams and external organisations, you will lead the development of audit processes for water‑quality investigations conducted under the Storm Overflows Assessment Framework and Environment Act. You will also co‑develop training courses on Urban Pollution Management, respond to technical queries and coach staff on sewerage and water‑quality investigations.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You may take on an incident role, providing business‑continuity support and responding to incidents, which may attract additional payment and includes full training if chosen.


Responsibilities

* Lead the development of audit processes for water‑quality investigations under the Storm Overflows Assessment Framework and Environment Act.
* Co‑develop training courses on Urban Pollution Management (UPM), respond to technical queries, and coach staff on sewerage and water‑quality investigations.
* Work proactively with Environment Agency teams and external organisations to design and implement new regulatory approaches.
* Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers while working independently within a dispersed team.
* Provide incident role availability and support business continuity during incidents.


Qualifications & Experience

* Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geography, environmental science or a related field.
* Relevant continued professional experience in sewer hydraulic and/or river quality impact modelling for Urban Pollution Management studies, including model audits.
* Knowledge of environmental planning and the regulation of Water and Sewerage Companies.
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to coach others.
* Experience embedding new approaches into business and developing new processes through collaborative relationships across dispersed teams.
