We are seeking an experienced Freelance Project Director to lead the delivery of a large-scale retail fit out scheme from pre-construction through to handover. This is a senior leadership role requiring strong commercial acumen, stakeholder management skills, and a proven track record in complex retail environments.
The Role
You will have overall responsibility for the successful planning, coordination, and delivery of the project, ensuring it is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide strategic leadership across all stages of the project lifecycle
2. Oversee programme, cost control, risk management, and procurement strategy
3. Lead and coordinate consultants, contractors, and specialist subcontractors
4. Ensure compliance with H&S, statutory requirements, and client standards
5. Drive design coordination and manage change control processes
6. Resolve complex technical, commercial, and programme challenges
7. Report regularly on progress, risks, and performance
About You
8. Proven experience as a Project Director or Senior Project Manager on large retail fit out projects
9. Strong background in fast-paced, live retail or high-value commercial environments
10. Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
11. Confident managing multiple stakeholders at senior level
12. Strong commercial and contractual knowledge
13. Able to work autonomously and take full ownership of project outcomes
14. Relevant construction or project management qualification preferred
