6-month contract with Potential Extension
Day rate: £32 - £42 per hour Inside IR35
Are you ready to push the boundaries of electric vehicle design? We are seeking a visionary Lead BIW Engineer to head the development of next-generation, premium Upper Body structures and moving closure systems. Starting from a clean sheet, you will use your technical expertise to create lightweight, high-performance architectures that set new global benchmarks for structural rigidity, crashworthiness, and aerodynamic integration.
Your Impact
* Concept Architecture: Lead desktop architecture studies and develop robust structural concepts from proof-of-concept (POC) through to production.
* Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with Studio Design, Crash Safety, NVH, and Manufacturing teams to negotiate and resolve early packaging and styling conflicts.
* Technical Benchmarking: Plan and execute physical vehicle teardowns and virtual CAD benchmarking of competitor bodies to evaluate sealing, mechanisms, and construction methods.
* Advanced Innovation: Investigate and prove out cutting-edge structural technologies, including mega-castings, extrusions, and advanced multi-material joining processes.
Your Experience
* Industry Veteran: 10+ years of vehicle-level BIW architecture experience, with specific expertise in upper body structures and moving closures (doors, hoods, tailgates).
* Manufacturing Mastery: Deep understanding of aluminum stampings, high-pressure die castings (HPDC), and multi-material bonding technologies.
* CAD Expert: Highly proficient with advanced CAD platforms (Catia V5/V6 preferred) and robust PLM data management.
* Attributes Specialist: Proven ability to balance BIW design against critical EV performance metrics like mass‑optimization, battery protection, and NVH insulation.
* Global Mindset: Strong communication skills with the flexibility to support international collaboration across the US, Europe, and Asia.
