Were now looking for an Instrumentation & Controls Drafter to join their growing design and engineering team in Stamford, where youll play a key role in creating detailed technical documentation across complex, high-impact projects.
What you'll be doing:
Creating technical drawings and schematics
* Develop a full range of instrumentation and control drawings using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
* Produce accurate Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for process control systems
* Create Loop Diagrams, Hook-Up Diagrams, Boolean Logic Diagrams, and detailed wiring drawings for local and PLC control panels
* Generate General Arrangement (GA) drawings and component layouts for fabrication and installation
Supporting the engineering team
* Work closely with Controls Engineers to interpret specifications and convert them into clear, practical designs
* Assist with compiling Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical and instrumentation components
* Support project engineers in reviewing job specs, documentation and requirements to ensure accuracy in final output
Reviewing and updating design documents
* Interpret as-sold project proposals and customer specifications to guide the drafting process
* Manage feedback and revisions by reviewing customer mark-up prints and incorporating design comments
* Produce comprehensive as-built documentation, reflecting final configurations after installation
Interacting with the production team
* Conduct on-site workshop visits to liaise with production staff and troubleshoot any design-related issues
* Provide technical support during build phases to ensure alignment with design intent
* Make live updates and refinements to drawings during project execution, as required
Maintaining quality and accuracy
* Carry out rigorous self-checks on all drafted documents to uphold accuracy and compliance with project standards
* Participate in drawing reviews and help verify the quality of team outputs
* Deliver all drawings and supporting documentation in line with internal deadlines and project expectations
Using tools and software effectively
* Work proficiently with AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical, as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and web-based platforms used in document management
* Maintain familiarity with evolving design tools and best practices in instrumentation and control drafting
What we're looking for:
* Strong hands-on experience with AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical, ideally in a controls or instrumentation context
* Practical knowledge of control panel design, electrical schematics, and instrumentation drawings
* Experience producing full Bills of Materials and working alongside engineers on multi-discipline projects
* Background in developing P&IDs highly desirable
* A relevant qualification in engineering or a strong equivalent track record in a similar role
* Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise effectively
* A proactive, assertive and confident approach with excellent attention to detail
You'll also need:
* A full, valid UK driving licence
* To live within a 1-hour commute of the Stamford site (PE9 4AQ)
