The main purpose of the job Reporting to the charge nurses, we are looking for healthcare assistants who will liaise at all levels with consultants, nursing services managers and all members of our multi-disciplinary team. The postholder will be required to support the professional and multi-disciplinary team in the care of patients and the day-to-day management of the nursing department. In addition, they will be required to provide input with the implementation of specific support tasks with patients and their families. Finally, the successful candidate will provide feedback to other members of the treatment team regarding the progress of patients, under the direction of a qualified nurse. Main Responsabilities: Assisting members of the multi-disciplinary team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients. Participating in the review of patients care plans as appropriate in ward rounds, meetings and case conferences, in line with policies and procedures. Reporting and recording any changes in a patient's physical or mental condition to the nurse in charge. Escorting patients both internally and externally to the hospital, as required. Endeavouring to develop sound professional relationships with patients, to promote active listening and communicate the patient's needs to members of the multi-disciplinary team. Ensuring that confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with the company policies, the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records Act 1990. Requirements The following skills and qualifications are essential: NVQ level 1 in basic nursing skills Literacy and Numeracy of a GCSE or equivalent standard Previous experience working with people with mental health problems Good English communication skills both verbal and written Ability to work as part of a team Good interpersonal skills Ability to present self in a confident manner Awareness of the effect of self on others Ability to prioritise tasks Ability to take direction Awareness of the level of the position being applied for Regular and punctual attendance Self-identified methods of dealing with stress. Ability to identify situations that can cause stress to self Ability to work day/night/weekend shifts Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business Strongly desirable qualities include: Computer Skills at intermediate level PMVA Training Graduate in healthcare or related subject Experience in specialist service areas such as YPU, eating disorders, addiction or general psychiatry Basic understanding of mental illness Good level of empathy Ability to communicate with Colleagues, patients and visitors.
