Job Overview
The Welding Service Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and servicing of various types of welding equipment, including arc, MIG, TIG, and plasma cutters, along with associated plant and accessories. This role ensures that all equipment operates effectively, meets safety standards, and is available to minimise production downtime. The technician will also provide technical support to users, conduct regular inspections, and implement preventative maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Servicing and Maintenance:
* Conduct regular inspections, servicing, and preventive maintenance of all types of welding equipment.
* Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in welding machines, power sources, and other related equipment.
* Perform timely repairs to minimise operational disruptions and equipment downtime.
* Maintain a comprehensive record of repairs, parts replaced, and service history for each machine.
Repair and Calibration:
* Repair electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems within welding equipment, including transformers, circuits, cooling systems, and power supplies.
* Calibrate and test equipment to ensure accuracy, safety, and compliance with industry standards.
* Install replacement parts and conduct electrical wiring when needed, following manufacturer guidelines.
Preventative Maintenance and Inspections:
* Develop and implement a preventative maintenance schedule for all welding equipment and associated plant.
* Inspect and maintain gas supply systems, regulators, and hoses associated with welding equipment.
* Identify potential issues early and recommend solutions to avoid costly breakdowns.
* Safety and Compliance:
* Ensure all welding equipment complies with safety regulations, standards, and manufacturer guidelines.
* Follow strict safety protocols when servicing high-voltage equipment, pressurised gas systems, and hot machinery.
* Keep up to date with industry standards and safety codes for welding and fabrication equipment.
Technical Support and Training:
* Provide technical support and training to welding operators on equipment usage, basic troubleshooting, and maintenance practices.
* Assist operators with setup and adjustments to ensure quality and safety in welding operations.
Inventory and Record Management:
* Manage inventory levels of spare parts, consumables, and tools required for maintenance and repairs.
* Maintain accurate documentation and service records, including maintenance logs, repair reports, and safety inspections.
Skills and Qualifications
